Windows 8 Activator (All version)
Windows 8 is a version of Microsoft Windows
(an operating system produced by Microsoft) for use on personal computers,
including home and business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater
PCs.
Development of Windows 8 started before the
release of its predecessor,Windows 7, in 2009. Its existence was first
announced at CES 2011, and followed by the release of three pre-release
versions from September 2011 to May 2012. The operating system was released to
manufacturing on August 1, 2012, and was released for general availability on
October 26, 2012.Windows 8 uses version 6.2 of the Windows NT kernel.
Windows 8 introduces significant changes to
the operating system's platform, primarily focused towards improving its user
experience on mobile devices such as tablets to better compete with other
mobile operating systems like Android and Apple's iOS. Windows 8 features
a new touch user interface and shell based on Microsoft's "Metro" design
language, featuring a new Start screen with a grid of dynamically updating
tiles that represent applications. The Start screen replaces the "Start
menu" of earlier Windows versions. There is a
new appplatform with an emphasis on touchscreen input, and the new
Windows Store to obtain and/or purchase applications to run on the operating
system.
In addition, Windows 8 takes advantage of new
or emerging technologies like USB 3.0, 4Kn Advanced Format, near field
communications, cloud computing, and the low-power ARM architecture. It includes
new security features such as built-in antivirus capabilities, a new
installation process optimized for digital distribution, and support for secure
boot (a UEFI feature which allows operating systems
to bedigitally signed to prevent malware from altering the boot
process). Synchronization of certain apps and settings between multiple devices
is supported.

At any time while you wait for virus signature updates, the system may open a "window of vulnerability" that could lead to devastating consequences.
High performance NOD32
Efficient detection of malware not necessarily have to slow down your computer. NOD32 for the most part written in assembly language and has repeatedly won awards for outstanding performance among the anti-virus applications. NOD32 on average 2-5 times faster than the competition source: Virus Bulletin. With the switch to NOD32 will increase your system's performance.

IObit WinMetro 1.0 FINAL
Much has been made about the new look of Windows 8 – formerly
known as the Metro interface – and for many people this is going to be the
reason they choose to upgrade. But there are a large number of Windows users
who are perfectly happy with the way Windows 7 works, or can’t afford to upgrade
just at the moment. If you fall into either of these two camps, WinMetro could
be the utility you have been looking for.
This simple free utility enables
you to bring the look of Metro to Windows 7 so you can reap the benefits of
some of the interface changes to Windows 8 without the need to upgrade. The app
has been very well implemented, and while it is not a perfect replica of how
things are in Windows 8, it is certainly close enough. The redesigned Start
menu is home to all of your shortcuts and these looks very much the same as in
Windows 8.
The Start menu is access
just like in Windows 8, by moving the mouse to the lower left of the screen and
a copy of the charms bar can also be accessed at the right hand side. There are
a number of widgets built into the Start screen such as a news ticker, weather
forecast, and social networking elements, but there is little scope for
customization here.
In some respects, it
could be argued that WinMetro makes things slightly more awkward to get to, but
at the same time this could just be because of the fact that the way Windows 8
works is mimicked so well. The search feature of the Start menu has been nicely
implemented and this is sure to proof to be a great time-saver as well as
working in a very pleasing way.

DNS Angel 1.1
DNS Angel is a tool which can change your DNS server to a
more family-friendly option, instantly blocking many inappropriate websites
(porn, phishing sites, known malware sources and more).
The program couldn't be much
simpler. It's a tiny download (506KB), doesn't require installation, and on
launch just presents you with a few buttons for the DNS servers it supports
(Norton, OpenDNS and MetaCert). All you then have to do is click "MetaCert
DNS", say, Windows will immediately be updated to use the MetaCert DNS
servers, and from that moment you'll find that adult sites are blocked.
DNS Angel worked just
fine for us, but if you do have problems then you can click "Restore
DNS" to restore your original DNS settings, or "Default DNS",
which allows Windows to obtain your settings automatically (they might be
assigned by your router, say).
This plainly isn't the
most solid of parental protection tools. If a user on your PC finds DNS Angel
then they can run it, and restore the original DNS settings with a click. Or,
if they've any technical knowledge then they can do this anyway, just via
standard Windows tools.
If you're just trying to
protect a very young child, though, or you supplement the program with other
measures (having them log in with a limited user account, say), then DNS Angel
could be very helpful. And it's certainly easy to try.

Advanced BAT to EXE Converter 2.75
Advanced BAT to EXE Converter helps you develop useful batch
files, extends their range with advanced custom commands, then compiles them
into executables which will run on anything from Windows 98 upwards.
Converting your batch files in this way has all kinds of advantages. You can prevent them from being edited, for instance. They can have an icon of your choice, just like any other executable. The finished EXE files can include built-in security, so only those who know the password will be able to run them. And they'll run without that annoying command window you get with regular batch files.

The finished EXE files can include built-in security, so only those who know the password will be able to run them. And they'll run without that annoying command window you get with regular batch files.
This doesn't require any
particular development knowledge, either. At a minimum, all you have to do is
open an existing batch file, click File > Build EXE, provide an executable
name and click OK > Build EXE. In a moment or two the file will appear,
ready for use.
If you have even a small
amount of scripting experience, though, you might appreciate Advanced BAT to
EXE Converter's support for new batch file commands. There are only a few, but
they're useful: you're able to accept text and mouse input, browse for files
and folders, perform basic math, and more.
None of this is too
surprising, of course - there are plenty of far more powerful scripting tools
around. The built-in Advanced BAT to EXE Converter editor is weak, too (it
makes Notepad look good). And licensing restrictions mean you can only run your
compiled executables on one PC, unless you upgrade to the Pro
version ($17.95 without
the extended commands, from $39.95 with them).
Still, if you just want
to protect or compile the batch files on your own PC then Advanced BAT to EXE
Converter is a simple way to do it, and we'd definitely recommend giving the
program a look.

sWeather 1.3.9
SWeather is a simple, portable weather application which
gives easy access to the current conditions and forecasts for as many locations
as you need.
Launch the program and it'll immediately display an icon in your system tray, indicating the current weather in Codyville, ME. And clicking this reveals more details: temperature, humidity, wind speed, sunrise and sunset times, as well as the conditions for the next few days, and a web link to an even more detailed forecast at weather.yahoo.com.

You probably don't live
in Codyville, of course, but that's no problem. Click Options > Configure,
and you're able to find your home town, and as many other locations as you
like, and add them to the program. The one at the top of the list will be
treated as the default, and you'll be able to switch to the others at any time
by choosing one from a menu.
There are plenty of
other configuration options, if you need them. You can decide how often the
program will download the latest forecasts, for instance (it's hourly, by
default). There's perhaps a useful option to display a location's local time in
the program title bar. And you can choose your preferred units, configure the
program to start with windows, and select a variety of program icon styles and
themes.
And yet resource usage
isn't too bad, with the program requiring only a fraction more than 10MB RAM on
our test PC.
SWeather may not have
the flashy graphics you'll get with the latest Windows 8 weather apps, then,
but it's simple to use, and still manages to cram plenty of functionality into
its lightweight frame.

Desktop Earth 2.1.1
Desktop Earth automatically generates a gorgeous desktop

then updates it every few minutes.
This starts with a high definition base image of the planet, updated monthly to give a more accurate view of snow coverage, the seasons and so on.
This starts with a high definition base image of the planet, updated monthly to give a more accurate view of snow coverage, the seasons and so on.
The picture then gets
overlaid with cloud images, which can be updated regularly. These look gorgeous
and give a realistic effect, but aren't actual snapshots, so don't rely on them
for weather forecasting.
To finish, you can
actually see the passage of daylight across the globe, so your desktop will
very graphically show you where it's daytime right now, and where it's the
middle of the night (it can even add city lights for a little extra realism).
And Desktop Earth will
by default update the image every five minutes, to keep it reasonably accurate.
(Although you can change the update interval and many other program settings
from its system tray icon.)
If your desktop is
covered in shortcuts, of course, the program may not be for you. They'll be
more difficult to see, with the changing wallpaper (plus they'll obscure so
much of the amazing visuals that you may wonder why you bothered).
If your desktop is
normally clear, though, Desktop Earth is a great way to give it some life. The
program is entirely free, no adware issues to worry about. And while it runs in
the background, RAM use is minimal, at only around 5MB on our test system.

On arrival you'll notice
a start orb in the bottom left-hand corner of the taskbar. Click this and a
very close copy of the Start Menu appears, with links to your programs, system
applets such as Control Panel, and the old power-down dialog.
And StartMenu8 also
disables the Windows 8 "hot corners", perhaps useful if you find
yourself occasionally activating them accidentally.
If you don't like any of
this, though, just right-click the start orb, choose "Settings", and
you'll find a wide range of options to help you configure the program more to

McAfee Stinger Portable 11.0.0.269
McAfee Stinger is a stand-alone portable antivirus tool
which can detect and remove some malware.
At its simplest, all you have to
do is download the program, launch it, click Scan Now and wait to see what
happens. Stinger's straightforward on-demand scanning shouldn't conflict with
any other security software, so you can run it alongside your existing
antivirus package without any problems. And if the program detects any threats
then it'll remove them for you.
Stinger does have a few
interesting settings hidden behind the Preferences button. You might want to
check the "Boot sectors" box to ensure the program checks for boot
sector viruses, for instance. And if you're sure your system is infected, but
Stinger can't find anything, then you might try increasing the heuristic
sensitivity level. This makes it more likely that the program will spot suspect
files, but also increases the chance that it'll highlight entirely innocent
programs, so you should also change the "On virus detection" option
from "Repair" to "Report only", at least initially.
Please note, Stinger
only detects the most common malware specimens (click the List Viruses button
to see them all), and offers no real-time protection measures at all, so it's
no substitute for a full antivirus package. The program can be useful, though,
if you've been infected by a virus which your regular package has missed:
Stinger just might be able to find and remove it for you.

version of McAfee Stinger.

Stop PORN 7.7
Stop PORN is a free parental controls program. As you can see
from the name, it's mostly about preventing access to internet pornography, but
has more general applications as well.
The program works by looking for keywords in website domain names, search engine results and more. If you search Google for "porn", say, the results will pop up, just briefly, but then your browser window will be closed.

You can also block
specific file sharing or instant messaging tools from launching.
It's possible to create
a custom "Ban List" with sites or applications which you'd like to
block.
The program includes a
keylogger, which helps you to monitor exactly what your kids are doing offline,
as well as on.
And an internet access
timer allows you to block web access for a period of time.
None of this is exactly
subtle or smart. For example, you might be searching for something entirely
safe, but if one of your keywords includes a banned word - "Essex"
and "sex", say - Stop PORN will still close your browser down.
And the program will by
default automatically close Task Manager and REGEDIT, too, in an effort to
protect itself. (Checking "Disable Security Measures" in the settings
dialog will turn this off, though, and you can also disable Stop PORN just for
a while to regain control.)
Stop PORN isn't
something you should use with teenagers, then, or anyone who knows their way
around a PC (it's not difficult to disable). But, if you're just trying to
protect very young children then the program could be useful.
Please note, Stop PORN
can't be uninstalled via Control Panel. To remove it, right-click the program's
system tray icon, enter your password, click the Uninstall button and follow

system boots, can email you its current IP address or upload the data to an FTP

Click Start > All
Programs > Softraven > IPFetcher, and click either "Set FTP" or
"Set Mail", depending on which method you'd like to use. Fill in the
form with the various details (SMTP server, port number and so on).
Setup problems begin to
emerge at around this point, particularly on the email side. The program could
try to help by providing a default SMTP port (25), for instance, but there's
nothing. And once you've entered your details, clicking "Test Mail"
should send you a test message - but that didn't work for us, either. Even when
our details were correct, all we saw was a horribly technical .NET error
message.
IPFetcher hasn't
finished, either. Once you've entered the details you'll probably click
"Save", but this will just display a less than clear error message.
You'll have to click "Set interval and log" and set both the
"Reset log count" and "Repeat hours" (how often the
location will be sent) values; "200" and "24 hours" will be
fine for now. We would manually start the service, too, just in case (click
Service Settings > "Click to manually start Service").
Finally, enter a
password in the box, click Save and reboot your PC. And while the setup process
was less than obvious, once it was out of the way we found IPFetcher worked
very well, correctly retrieving our IP address and emailing or uploading it as
we'd specified, and requiring no further maintenance at all.

more twitter accounts, with each account spanning across the user-interface for
easy reference. You can also admin your Facebook and other social media
accounts, too.
If you have the desktop version
of the program installed it is possible to sync settings between the two for a
uniform Twitter experience and the app's handling of message allows for easy
interaction. The message stream can supply notifications when new tweets are
received, and upon viewing individual tweets simple links for replying, direct
messaging and retweeting make it easy to work with.
Images attached to
messages can be automatically uploaded to the likes of Twitpic and YFrog and
URL are automatically shortened using the service of your preference.
Customisable columns for trends and saved searches can be used to keep track of
tweets relating to a particular subject and the multi-column interface allows
for quick and easy movement between different aspects of the app.
Note that TweetDeck is
no longer an Adobe Air application and is now native to Windows and Mac. UI
changes have left a few users feeling let down. We've removed our
"recommended" award for this product.

Once our system was restarted, every one of the default tools had an icon in the system tray, and clicking this launched it, just as

Once our system was restarted, every one of the default tools had an icon in the system tray, and clicking this launched it, just as
you would expect.
To configure Tray Tools
2000, click the program's own system tray icon, and select the Tools tab. Here
you can remove any unnecessary items (like CDPlayer.exe, for instance), and add
preferred programs of your own. There's a little work to do here, but it's
essentially just like creating a shortcut: you'll provide a program name, path,
optional command line switches, an opening window style (Normal, Maximised,
Minimised) and so on.
We followed this
procedure to add Google Earth to our system tray, for instance, clicked Close
to remove the Tray Tools 2000 dialog, and Google Earth's icon was accessible
right away.
Tray Tools 2000 has been
around for a long time, and the interface doesn't always work as you expect.
You soon learn its quirks, though, and the program does its job well enough,
and without consuming too much background RAM (17MB on our test system). It's
also recently been updated to run on Windows 7 and 8, so if you're looking to
get more from your system tray then this could be the program to help.

Safe Pad 1.00
How do you store your private data? Your really private data?
Do you have secure way to store your credit card details, password and other
such information? There are a number of password database tools to choose from,
but the problem with these is that they offer slightly awkward ways to access
your data. If you have text based information that you need to keep private, it
makes sense to use a secure text editor to keep it safe.
This is exactly what Safe Pad is. It is a beefed up version of Wordpad, essentially, with the emphasis placed firmly on security. Any files you create here can be super protected through the use of a double layer of passwords to ensure that only authorized people are able to open them up.
This is exactly what Safe Pad is. It is a beefed up version of Wordpad, essentially, with the emphasis placed firmly on security. Any files you create here can be super protected through the use of a double layer of passwords to ensure that only authorized people are able to open them up.
Although the files are
saved in Safe Pad’s own format, by default they will open up in Notepad. As the
files are encrypted, all that will be displayed is gobbledegook. That is, at
least, until you fire up Safe Pad and opt to open the file directly through the
app, entering the necessary password to decrypt the file.
In terms of features,
this is a fairly limited text editor, but that’s not really the point. This has
not been designed for creating and editing lengthy documents – you’re unlikely
to want to use it to write your next novel – but it is perfectly suited for
those small files that are used to house your private data.
There are enough word
processing tools on hand so you can perform essential formatting and page
configuration, however. Different fonts can be used, although there is no so
simple drop down menu to make your selection from; instead you have to call up
and option dialog and make your choice here. Beside this, there are basic justification
and bulleting options as well as the usual emboldening, underlining and
italicizing.
